Guidelines

Step 1. Read the Participant Information Sheet and Complete the Consent Form

Before participating, please read the Participant Information Sheet (PIS) to understand the purpose of the research, confidentiality arrangements, voluntary participation, and data protection procedures. If you agree to participate, please complete the Consent Form before proceeding to the assessment.

Step 2. Complete the Assessment

Evaluate your organisation against each of the 17 Design Out Waste (DoW) attributes by selecting the maturity level that best represents your current practices, ranging from Level 1 (Initial) to Level 5 (Optimised).

Step 3. Submit Your Responses

Once all attributes have been assessed, submit the application. The assessment tool will automatically calculate weighted scores based on the proposed DoW maturity framework.

Step 4. Review Your Results

The assessment provides:

  • Overall DoW maturity level
  • Dimension-level scores across the five organisational dimensions
  • Attribute-level performance
  • Visual summaries highlighting organisational strengths and areas requiring improvement

Step 5. Identify Improvement Priorities

Compare lower-scoring dimensions and attributes with the maturity descriptions to identify capability gaps and prioritise improvement initiatives.

Step 6. Develop an Improvement Roadmap

Use the assessment findings to establish action plans, allocate resources, monitor progress, and periodically reassess organisational maturity to support continuous improvement in Design out Waste implementation.

Assessment Notes

  • Assessments should be completed by individuals with sufficient knowledge of the organisation’s design processes and management practices.
  • Responses should reflect current organisational practices rather than planned or desired future practices.
  • Where possible, assessments should be supported by organisational evidence such as policies, procedures, project documentation, BIM models, training records, or performance reports.
  • The assessment is intended as a benchmarking and continuous improvement tool rather than a compliance or certification assessment.
